Patrick Underly, a Special Olympian, and his father, Steve attended the auction for the third year in a row, and their inspirational speech really set the mood for the night and reminded us all why we had come together. At the end of their speech, Patrick and Steve offered a night of bowling (and instruction by Patrick, who is an accomplished bowler) which started off the live auction and sold for an impressive $160. Dean Curall gave a great speech to those attending and made a special campaign pitch to bid high on his donated "Lunch with the Dean."
Several undergrads involved with the Alpha Phi Omega community service fraternity helped with the setup of the event, and several of the daytime MBA students helped at the event by pouring wine and assisting with clean up. Thank you to everyone that helped out - the event wouldn't have gone as smoothly without your contributions. In addition to all of the students, faculty and staff that attended, it was nice to see such a large alumni presence, including many former C4C board members.
The Boys and Girls Club of Sacramento donated artwork, which was sold out. Our ASM president Andrew Perroy was the envy of the party after he won the hand-painted red box. The mystery wines were also a big hit at the event and it seemed like everyone left the event with a bottle or two in hand! Srini impressed everyone with his generosity and won on 8 separate items.
The auction item that went for the most money was Victor Stango's dinner party, which sold for a whopping $560. Professor Stango generously donated another dinner party to the 2nd highest bid group. Bob Yetman was brilliant as our auctioneer. He enthusiastically revved up the crowd for the live auction. He was getting people so excited, Victor Stango even bid against himself.
All told, the event was a huge success, a ton of fun, and raised a lot of money for the Special Olympics of Northern California and the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Sacramento. Thanks to everyone who helped make the Wine Tasting such a great success!
